Proof Silver Coin
How is the Liberty Dollar inflation proof?
The Liberty Dollar (http://www.libertydollar.org/) says that it is inflation proof currency because it is backed by gold and silver. However, each coin/certificate has a dollar amount on it, such as $10. As far as I understand, this dollar amount relates to a U.S. dollar amount.
So, if a U.S. dollar $10 bill gets less valuable over time due to inflation, why doesn’t a Liberty Dollar $10 bill get less valuable as well?
The value of the liberty dollar is the value of it’s weight in gold. It is inflation proof because it is gold, which can not be printed to fund the government’s deficit spending like dollars bills can be. It has a nominal value printed on it ($10) which is much less than it’s gold value. The government gives it a very small legal tender value so that it will not compete with dollar bills as a form of currency. If the true value of the coin were labeled, everyone would prefer it to paper money.
